Because coal burning power plants are our nation’s leading source of carbon dioxide, and if we’re serious about stopping global warming, we have to get serious about transitioning away from coal.

Stories are the connective tissue of the Power Past Coal movement. These 100 Days of Action will be most powerful if we can weave each of our stories into a common and compelling national narrative.
INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIZING A LOCAL ACTION
Organizing a Power Past Coal action every day from January 21st to April 30th seems like an ambitious undertaking, and it is! But it is critical that the new President and Congress know immediately that there is a nationally-organized, grassroots movement that will not stop until our country shifts from dirty coal to clean, renewable energy.
INVOLVING MORE PEOPLE
If we're going to make a big splash, our events need to involve as many folks as possible. Here are some suggestions about how to recruit more people to come to your event, and ways to get folks involved.
WORKING WITH THE MEDIA
It's rarely too early to start creating some buzz about your local event. Try getting on some local blogs, give the community radio station a call, write an LTE, and get in touch with the locally owned papers in your community to see if they'll help you spread the word about your event.
BANNER MAKING 101
Find some old sheets, long pieces of fabric, quilting, or even large cardboard boxes (enough to piece them together for a larger banner). Note that depending on where you are you might need to think about the various weather conditions your banner might need to withstand -- choose accordingly.
PERMITS AND LIABILITY
Some rallies will require some sort of permit, and in certain situations you may want to have participants sign some kind of liability release form.
